What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is a non-invasive treatment that combines traditional microneedling with RF (radiofrequency) energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production deep within the skin. The RF microneedling device creates micro-injuries that trigger the body's natural healing process, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin as well as scar repair.

How does RF Microneedling Work?

The Secret RF is a microneedling machine that uses small needles to deliver fractional Radio Frequency (RF) energy into varying levels of the skin including the deeper layers (dermis). This controlled injury stimulates collagen production and cell regeneration. Because collagen is protein in the skin that provides support the result is more supple skin.

RF Microneedling Benefits

What Areas of the Body can be Treated with RF Microneedling?

We use radiofrequency microneedling to address a wide variety of concerns, from acne scars to stretch marks, and all sorts of wrinkles in between. Virtually any area that may be affected by these concerns can be treated with RF microneedling. The most common treatment areas include:

  • Abdomen
  • Legs
  • Arms
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Face
  • Décolleté
  • Around the mouth
  • Around the eyes

How is RF Microneedling Different from other Radiofrequency Treatments?

Radiofrequency is a powerful form of energy that has become the foundation for a variety of cosmetic devices. In most cases, the RF energy is delivered in a manner that requires it to pass through the epidermis to reach deeper layers of tissue. Though effective, it has its limitations. RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency energy closer to the target depth of tissue by inserting radiofrequency through the tips of the tiny needles as they are positioned beneath the skin's surface. The depth of delivery enhances the rejuvenating effects of the RF energy.

RF Microneedling vs Microneedling?

Traditional microneedling treatment stimulates tissue regeneration and collagen production by creating controlled micro-wounds in the superficial layers of the skin. The most effective technique involves an automated device that treats the skin in a stamping pattern. In this way, microchannels are created in a vertical fashion that doesn't risk tearing the skin. When micro-injuries are created during this treatment, the body engages in reparative processes, primarily the production of collagen in the treated area. Where there is more collagen, there is firmer, smoother, more radiant skin.

The addition of radiofrequency to the microneedling technique amplifies the tissue-repair that occurs. The treatment draws in more collagen and other rejuvenating chemicals like hyaluronic acid to revive tired-looking skin without significantly increasing side effects or downtime.

Does RF Microneedling Hurt?

Combining radiofrequency energy with microneedling can increase the pain factor of the treatment, yes. However, that doesn't mean you'll be in pain during your RF microneedling treatment! Your provider will apply numbing medication to your treatment area before commencing with the procedure. After about half an hour, the anesthetic will have nicely desensitized the skin. You won't feel completely numb but you'll feel numb enough for your RF microneedling treatment to feel only mildly uncomfortable.

Is there any Downtime after RF Microneedling Treatment?

The side effects that can occur after RF microneedling treatment are usually pretty mild. You may experience some swelling, redness, and soreness or tenderness after your procedure. These sensations typically resolve in a day or two at the most. While your skin is in active repair-mode, it's important to take good care of it. Wash with a gentle cleanser and moisturize as advised by your provider. Also apply sunscreen and protect your skin with clothing or a hat as much as you can while outdoors.

RF microneedling post care

After care for a radiofrequency microneedling treatment is simple. For the first several hours after your treatment, nothing, not even sunscreen should be applied to the skin. Keep the skin clean.  You may wash your face before bedtime the day of the appointment.  You can resume regular skin care the next day.

How to prepare for an rf microneedle treatment

Other than removing make up and cleaning the affected area, there is no special preparation for this service.  There should be no rashes or infections on the skin.  Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs and blood thinners if possible to reduce risk of bleeding, however, the treatment can be done while someone is on those medications.
