JUVEDERM may be the solution to several facial concerns we have as we get older. This page gives a quick look at what conditions this procedure can help with and describes what it can do.
As we age, we often experience volume loss in our faces. This can make our faces appear more “sunken in,” and can cause the skin to sag and form folds resulting in a more aged appearance or a tired or sad expression. Facial volume loss can also be a concern of younger people who have lost weight or people who are very fit and have low body fat.
Dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® can help address these common concerns. JUVÉDERM is a hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally-occurring substance in our skin. Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate (sugar) that attracts water to help volumize the skin. Volumizing the skin helps decrease the appearance of fine lines on the face.
JUVÉDERM can be used for various areas of the face such as:
- Volumize the cheeks
- Plump the lips
- Treat smile lines
- Fill fine lines and wrinkles
- Sunken circles around the eyes
At the consultation, the doctor will determine whether it is safe for the patient to receive the treatment and whether JUVÉDERM will address the patient’s concerns. If one is interested in being treated, it is best to avoid aspirin and NSAIDs (ibuprofen) for at least a week before treatment as these medications increase the risk of bruising after JUVÉDERM injections. The results of JUVÉDERM can typically be seen immediately depending on the type of Juvederm used, the location of the treatment and the individual patient, the effects of JUVÉDERM commonly last 9-12 months.
