Botox for Gummy Smile – Before & After
What is a Gummy Smile?
A gummy smile is when the upper lip lifts high enough during a smile to reveal extra gum tissue above the teeth. It’s completely harmless and just a variation of normal anatomy. Still, some people prefer a more balanced look when they smile.

Why It Happens
The main cause is overactive muscles that elevate the upper lip. These include the levator labii superioris, levator labii superioris alaeque nasi, and zygomaticus minor. In some people, these muscles lift the lip higher than average.
How Botox (and Other Neurotoxins) Help
Botox, or other neurotoxins such as Dysport®, Xeomin®, or Jeuveau®, relax these overactive muscles. When the muscles relax, the lip does not rise as much when you smile. This reduces gum show while keeping your natural expression.
Quick and Simple Treatment
The procedure is fast. It usually involves two small injections, one on each side of the nose where the lip-lifting muscles meet. The process takes only a few minutes and has no downtime.
When You’ll See Results
You’ll start to notice changes in 3–7 days, with full results in about two weeks. The effect lasts about 3–4 months before a touch-up is needed.
