What is a gummy smile?
A gummy smile is a term used to describe a smile where an excessive amount of gum tissue is visible when a person smiles. Botox, short for botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is commonly used in cosmetic treatments to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by relaxing muscles. This is also how it works for gummy smile treatment. When injected into the muscles responsible for lifting the upper lip, Botox temporarily paralyzes these muscles, reducing their ability to lift the lip excessively. This results in a more balanced smile, with less gum tissue visible.
