Your hair and your heart are more related than you might think. Androgenetic alopecia, or male/female pattern hair loss, is the most common cause of hair loss. Its cause is usually genetic, but it can also occur due to hormonal problems. Although many regard the problem as merely cosmetic, the onset of this type of hair loss before age 36 is associated with an increased risk of abnormal blood lipid values associated with cardiovascular disease.
So if you suspect that your hair and your heart could be telling you something, or even if you don’t, it is easy enough to find out. Use your minoxidil (i.e. Rogaine) for that hair loss, but get your cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL checked by a healthcare professional.
It is important to note several other medical conditions have been known to be associated with hair loss in men. Besides heart issues, Â an enlarged prostate and prostate cancer could show signs of Androgenetic alopecia. Â Insulin resistance (obesity and diabetes) and high blood pressure have also been linked to this form of hair loss. Â When you get to know skin, you learn that skin is deep.
