DPN Removal Results – Before and After
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN) is a common, harmless skin condition that appears as small, dark bumps (seborrheic keratoses) on the face and sometimes the neck or upper body. DPNs are cosmetic, not medical, meaning they don’t require treatment for health reasons. They are genetic and occur more often in people with darker skin tones, particularly those of African, Asian, or Polynesian descent (skin of color).
While DPNs don’t usually cause physical discomfort, many people choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons—especially when the spots increase in number or size over time.
There are several methods to remove DPNs, including cryotherapy (freezing), laser therapy, and surgical excision. At Aglow Dermatology, we frequently use hyfrecation, a safe and effective technique that uses a fine-tipped device to deliver a small electrical current to the bump, removing it with minimal risk of scarring when performed by our experienced dermatologist.
The before and after example shown here features a patient who had multiple DPNs removed in a single session using hyfrecation. In the “before” image, small, raised, dark bumps are visible across the cheeks. In the “after” image, the skin appears smoother, clearer, and more even-toned, with no visible marks from the procedure.
