Laser & Energy Devices

Advanced Skin Technology at Global Dermatology

Laser and energy-based devices represent one of the most rapidly evolving areas in dermatology. At Aglowl Dermatology, we use a curated selection of evidence-based platforms to treat skin rejuvenation, acne, scarring, pigmentation, vascular conditions, hair loss, and skin tightening—while balancing safety, precision, and individualized care.

Aerolase Laser Platform

The Aerolase laser family is known for its versatility, gentle energy delivery, and suitability across a wide range of skin tones. Unlike older laser systems, Aerolase devices use a unique 650-microsecond pulse technology that minimizes discomfort and reduces risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The Aerolase lasers are designed to be safe on all skin types including skin of color.

We utilize three core Aerolase platforms:

Aerolase Neo (Skin Rejuvenation & Acne)

The Aerolase Neo is one of the most versatile dermatology lasers available today.

Common uses include:

  • Active acne and acne inflammation
  • Rosacea and facial redness
  • Skin texture and tone improvement
  • Mild pigment irregularities
  • Overall skin revitalization (“laser facial” effect)

This is often a “foundation device” for patients who want consistent, low-downtime improvement.

Aerolase Era (Skin Resurfacing)

The Aerolase Era is a more resurfacing-focused laser designed for controlled ablation of the skin surface.

It is commonly used for:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage and photodamage
  • Skin texture refinement
  • Mild tightening and resurfacing

Compared to traditional aggressive resurfacing lasers, Era is designed to reduce downtime while still achieving meaningful improvement.

Exci (Excimer-Based Therapy for Inflammatory Skin Disease)

The Exci system (as used in targeted dermatology light therapy protocols) is primarily a medical-grade excimer-based treatment designed for inflammatory and autoimmune skin conditions rather than cosmetic rejuvenation.

It is most commonly used for:

  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
  • Psoriasis
  • Vitiligo
  • Localized inflammatory plaques resistant to topical therapy

Unlike aesthetic laser systems, Exci-style excimer treatments are focused on immune modulation of the skin through targeted UVB energy delivered only to affected areas, sparing surrounding healthy skin.

Insurance Coverage

Because these are medical indications, treatment is often:

Used when topical or first-line therapies are insufficient

Covered by insurance plans (in whole or in part)

Subject to prior authorization depending on carrier and diagnosis

RF Microneedling for Skin Tightening & Scars

Radiofrequency microneedling combines mechanical micro-injury with thermal energy delivery into the dermis, stimulating collagen remodeling and tightening.

At Global Dermatology, we use the Cutera Secret RF system.

Cutera Secret RF Benefits

  • Acne scar improvement
  • Skin tightening (face, neck, body)
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pore reduction
  • Stretch mark improvement

This treatment is often combined with laser therapy for layered rejuvenation.

Alma TED Hair Restoration Technology

Hair loss treatment has shifted toward non-invasive regenerative technologies.

The Alma Lasers system known as TED is an ultrasound-based delivery system designed to enhance scalp absorption of growth factors and improve hair density. Unlike PRP, there is no blood, no needles and no pain.

Alma TED (Hair Restoration)

The Alma TED is used for:

  • Early androgenetic hair loss
  • Thinning hair in men and women
  • Post-shedding recovery phases
  • Supportive scalp regeneration protocols

It is often combined with medical therapies or in-office injectable regimens.

Hyfrecation (Electrodesiccation) — A Foundational Dermatology Tool

Hyfrecation (often referred to as electrodesiccation or electrocautery) is one of the oldest and most fundamental energy-based dermatologic tools.

While it is not a laser, it remains highly useful for:

  • Seborrheic keratoses including DPNs
  • Skin tags
  • Small benign lesions
  • Cherry angiomas (selected cases)
  • Minor superficial growths

It works by delivering controlled electrical energy to desiccate or remove tissue. Although simple compared to modern laser platforms, it remains a reliable and efficient in-office procedure.

Combining Technologies for Better Results

In many cases, optimal outcomes are achieved by combining modalities:

  • RF microneedling + laser for scars
  • Aerolase + topical regimens for acne
  • Hair restoration devices + medical therapy
  • Hyfrecation for lesion removal alongside rejuvenation treatments

Personalized treatment planning is key—no single device is ideal for every skin concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many modern devices, especially Aerolase-based systems, are designed with broader skin type safety in mind. However, treatment selection still depends on individual evaluation.

It depends on the condition:

Hair restoration: series-based protocols

Acne: 3–6 sessions

Pigmentation: 2–4 sessions

Scars: 3–5+ sessions

Most modern energy-based treatments have minimal downtime, ranging from none to mild redness or swelling depending on intensity. It will depend on the specific treatment.

Lasers target skin using light energy, while RF microneedling uses heat delivered through tiny needles into the dermis. They often complement each other.
