Happy December! As we have recently completed November, the month of gratitude, a quote I recently heard comes to mind: After thanking comes giving.
As I was browsing a recent issue of Glamour magazine, I came across a project that has inspired a giving project from my practice. Glamour was promoting a month of making small daily donations for a month to organizations that inspired them. So, thank you for the great idea Glamour magazine. Now, Aglow Dermatology will start Its month of daily giving. We will give a total of $1500.00 to 31 organizations in the next 31 days. We post an organization each day through the end of the year. We invite you to join us, either donating to the organizations that we recommend or ones you come up with on your own.
And remember, the giving is not about the amount. Its not about charity. Its about being grateful and supporting what in this world inspires you. When I was a medical student, accumulating massive debt, and no income, I used to donate $5.00 to Harvard Universitywhere I went to college. Harvard did not need my money. But I was so appreciative of their investments in me, both financial and spiritual, that I felt compelled to send something to rich Harvard, even as I ate ramen noodles and peanut butter. So I did. I was fascinated that I would always get a formal letter back, on high quality stationery, thanking me for my humble donation. Another lesson I learned from Harvard was the power of understanding the relationship between gratitude, giving and receiving.
